Profile:

Having left a previous career as a broadcaster in Australia, George Butler was called to the bar in 2003.

 

George has been a member of Chambers since completing his pupillage in June 2005.

 

His practice encompasses Care proceedings, contact applications, injunctions and all other Children Act 1989 matters. He has recently been involved in the High Court advising a Local Authority on its obligations to a child under the Child Abduction and Custody Act 1985. He has also recently completed a case involving the inherent jurisdiction of the High Court to direct treatment for a child, opposed by the parents, that required the removal of the child from the jurisdiction and associated immigration matters.

 

He has experience with civil and criminal cases including matters Harassment Act.

 

In 2006 George spent nine months working for the Seniors Advice and Information Law Service (SAILS) in Brisbane, Australia advising clients in relation to Elder Law. This is a growing area of legal practice that covers issues of mental capacity, financial abuse, equity matters and lasting powers and matters relating to the capacity of older clients and has advised Local Authorities in respect of their powers under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Mental Health Act 1983

 

George has already worked in this area with TLATA cases and matters relating to the capacity of older clients.

 

He is a father with two young children.
