Greg Davies practices primarily in all areas of family law relating to child protection. He regularly acts for parents, guardians and local authorities in public law care and adoption proceedings. He has conducted cases involving an international element, including proposed placement of children overseas and those involving instruction of the official solicitor.
Greg undertakes work in private law Children Act proceedings, including section 8 applications, fact finding hearings and child abduction cases. He has experience of child related Public Interest Immunity (PII) applications on behalf of local authorities in the Crown Court and appears regularly in the FPC, County Court and High Court on other family matters.
Greg has conducted numerous applications for non-molestation and occupation orders under the Family Law Act 1996 and is strongly committed to representing victims of domestic violence.He has appeared before the specialist Integrated Domestic Violence Court since the provisions of the Domestic Violence Crime and Victims Act came into force and is equally experienced in ‘notice to show cause’ committal proceedings.
Greg undertakes regular advisory work and advocacy for the National Probation Service and conducts training and lectures on the Children Act 1989 to social workers, foster carers and family support workers.
Before being called to the Bar, Greg volunteered for the Human Rights Commission in Auckland and worked on Treaty of Waitangi projects with Maori and indigenous rights groups in New Zealand. Greg has an interest in cross-cultural issues within family and child protection law and he is linked to a number of related international projects.
Greg also previously worked as a learning support assistant in a school for children with emotional behavioural difficulties and as a care worker for young people with epilepsy and autistic tendencies.
