Joy specialises in all areas of Children Law and has acted in both Public Law and Private Law proceedings. Joy has represented and advised local authorities and parents in a wide range of matters ranging from proceedings under the Children Act 1989, Part IV of the Family Law Act 1996, Hague Convention 1980 through to the Education Act 1996.
She also has experience in criminal law matters and has appeared in Youth, Magistrates and Crown Courts. Joy has been instructed by Treasury Solicitor in respect of Immigration matters and drafted Defences in Judicial Review proceedings. She has been approved and appointed by Attorney General to undertake work in respect of the Robert Hamill Inquiry.
This Inquiry considers the issue of State collusion and in particular, the actions of PSNI (formerly the RUC) in respect of the criminal investigations into Robert Hamill’s death.
Joy was instructed to research and analyse documents and evidence from the DPP, PSNI and Human Rights Agencies and prepare and then conduct Interviews of senior police officers, civilians and lawyers.
