Emily joined Four Brick Court as a pupil in October 2025. Prior to starting pupillage, Emily worked as a paralegal at three national law firms and as a caseworker at the Bar’s pro-bono charity, Advocate.
While working for the Childcare Law team at a leading law firm (Tier 3 Legal 500 and Band 2 in Chambers and Partners), Emily worked on a number of care proceeding and Family Law Act matters including cases involving applications to discharge Care Orders and Deprivation of Liberty Orders.
Following this, Emily worked as a paralegal within an Education and Children’s Rights team at a leading law firm (Band 1 Chambers and Partners) working on SEND Tribunal appeals, judicial reviews, educational negligence/breach of contact claim and representing a child at an exclusion hearing.
Emily also worked in a pre-eminent Divorce and Family Department (Tier 1 Legal 500 and Band 2 Chambers and Partners) servicing ultra-high net-worth clients. The work involved cases including international and jurisdictional issues, business and trusts law. Notable cases she worked on include the widely reported case of Standish v Standish [2024] EWCA Civ 567.
Immediately before starting pupillage, Emily worked at the Bar’s national pro-bono charity, Advocate. Through her role, she processed applications for people requesting assistance, prepared their case and looked for a barrister to assist.
Emily has consistently shown a strong commitment to pro-bono work, having previously volunteered for Citizens Advice Bureau, National Centre for Domestic Violence and IPSEA (Independent Provider of Special Education Advice). She has also represented numerous clients pro-bono through her paralegal work.
Emily obtained a first-class degree in Philosophy from the University of Essex, including being awarded the ‘Barbara Crawshaw Prize for the Best Second Year Performance in Philosophy’ and being included on the ‘Dean’s List for Excellence’ for her first and second year mark. She achieved a Distinction on the GDL and a Very Competent on the BPC (both at the University of Law).
Emily has been awarded the Exhibition Scholarship from the Honourable Society of Inner Temple.
